A New Chapter Across the Lake — Help Restore Sparks Lake Activity Center
Category: Resort News & Special Offers
Excerpt: Just across the water from Sparks Lake Resort, a historic Nacogdoches school property is being renewed for community recreation, youth activities, and future opportunities. Learn how you can support the restoration through Sparks Lake Network.
A Historic Place. A Renewed Purpose. A Future for Our Community.
At Sparks Lake Resort, we believe Nacogdoches is more than a place to visit. It’s a community with a remarkable history, strong local roots, and opportunities worth building for future generations.
Just across Sparks Lake stands a property with a special place in that history: the former Emeline Fears Carpenter Elementary School, now being renewed as Sparks Lake Activity Center (SLAC).
Under the leadership and vision of Warren “Ralph” Sparks, the goal is to bring new life to this historic property while honoring the people, educators, students, and families who helped shape its legacy.
The existing basketball gymnasium is an important part of the Activity Center, with plans for continued improvements, community recreation, youth programs, and other opportunities as restoration progresses.
We’re Welcoming Community Support
As the next chapter of the Activity Center takes shape, Sparks Lake Network is welcoming contributions and community partnerships to help support restoration and development efforts.
There are several ways supporters can participate:
- Financial contributions to assist with restoration and improvements.
- Donations of equipment and materials, including potential heating and cooling equipment.
- Business sponsorships and naming opportunities to support areas of the Activity Center.
- Community partnerships and volunteer involvement to help advance the project’s future.
- Historical photographs, memories, and stories that help preserve the legacy of Emeline Fears Carpenter Elementary School.
One important priority is the gymnasium’s aging heating and cooling equipment. Specialized repairs are challenging, and the restoration effort is also exploring replacement equipment and donated HVAC resources to support the building’s continued use.
Preserving History While Building for Tomorrow
The vision for Sparks Lake Activity Center is about more than renovating a building.
It’s about honoring a historic neighborhood school, supporting community activities, encouraging young people, and creating a lasting gathering place for Nacogdoches.
Whether you’re a local resident, a business owner, a former student, or a visitor who simply appreciates the spirit of East Texas, your interest and support are welcome.
